Chounkeng GH...$10US/night with HW, fan and window. Really nice staff. Small place only about 9 rooms. 1 block off the river, walk to all the temples. Clean too.

...Vang Vieng
Dokkhoun GH 1..$5US/night single with hw, fan and window. Situated across from Luang Prabang Bakery and very near the market. Clean enough and a friendly staff.

...Vientiane
Haysoke GH 2..$10US/night. hw, fan, no window but some rooms had one. Really nice helpfull staff. Walk to the temples, river, black stupa, market. ok place

...Pakse
Langkham Hotel ...320Baht/night . Huge room with 2 double beds, ac, hw, tv, very clean. Nice staff. Great Pho place downstairs during the day, Indian restaurant across the street and internet nextdoor.

Transport
Airport... Flew into Luang Prabang. Visa on arrival $30US. Very easy. 1 passport photo required. Walked out of the airport and flagged down a tuk tuk leaving the airport bartered to $2 us to get to town.

Luang Prabang-Vang Vieng. Minivan $6 US

Vang Vieng-Vientiane. Minivan $4 US

Vientiane-Pakse. Overnight bus $6 US

Pakse-Thailand via Chong Mek border crossing. Got a tuk tuk from Pakse out to the main market where I grabbed a seat in one of the local trucks heading to the border. Cost was 7000kip. Great bargain. I guess the ride took a little over an hour. At the border I grabbed a motorcycle taxi (to get rid of some kip) for 2000kip for the short ride to the Laos exit area. Stamped out no problem but had to pay the "50Baht" stamp fee as everyone else has, then through the fence and to the Thai office. No prob getting stamped in. Next I found a taxi to get to Ubon. You can find local trucks for a lot cheaper. I paid about $17us for the trip. Next time I am waiting for the local trucks!
