Guides / Driver

I can recommend both a driver and a guide. I have used them both and continue to stay in contact.

Adrian Paolo - Guide for all of Flores. Works at Bajo Beach Hotel. Can't miss him with his huge afro like hair and big smile. He can be used for multiple days across land, help you with a plan to do on your own, answer all questions and he knows a lot of people around the island so he tends to be able to get things done. Anything is possible. send him an email or ask for him at Bajo Beach Hotel in Labuan Bajo Flores. cell#

Edy - Driver for all of Flores. Usually stays in Labuan Bajo, Flores. Adrian can contact him if your interested or cell# +62 852 391 68137.

Most guides can be found in Labuan Bajo or Maumere. Hoping to find customers to take across the island. It seems easier and best to start your journey in the west. Starting in Labuan Bajo tends to cut out the middlemen that try to get in on the action. I have personally heard of two incidents in the past year where the tourist is told that the price for the driver includes hotel and food as well. Once with the driver and they show up at the first hotel the insanity starts. The price only includes the driver, car and petrol. Nothing else. You do not have to pay for the driver to stay at hotels. Although a lunch or two would be a nice gesture. You do have to pay for yourself. In both instances the tourists were left at their first stop in Moni to find themselves other transport.

Internet
Labuan Bajo - Found two places, 1.Wartel Purundi (take a mototaxi or bemo 2,000-3,000rp each way),
2. One on the main road toward the local shops not the hotels.

Ende - at the Tellocomm center. Big white official looking bldg. 12,000rp/hour.
Lombok Island
Hotels

Senggigi Beach - Lina Cottages, 60,000rp fpr cw/ac. 125,000rp for huge room, hw, ac, beachview, restaurant. Perama drop off and office directly across the street. phone 0370-693237 or 693157

Senggigi Beach - Hotel Rai across from Lina cottages.

Restaurants

Nightly Outside restaurant. Walk down the main road from the action toward the Art Market. On your left past the post office is a great nightly set up. Excellent fresh food from grilled fish to lobster, to noodles and rice. Cheap Cheap and tasty. Senggigi Beach

Asmara - Expensive for Indo standards but excellent food. I had Tuna carpaccio app, two banana milkshakes, one coke, 200g steak with potatos and a salad for $10.50US. Senggigi Beach

Transport
Perama Tourist Services - Budget priced transport and tours around mainly Bali and lombok. They have 2 night trips by boat between Lombok and Flores with stops in Komodo and Rinca islands. (Komodo, Lom-Flores..Rinca, Flores-Lom). Prices go up in July 06 for the Komodo trip and I think it will be overpriced then. Their bus prices can be pretty good though for basic transportation needs. boat
Bali
Hotels

Ubud - Artini 1, hw, fan. own "house/room" with sitting area outside, elaborately decorated. You feel as if you are staying on Temple grounds. Beautiful with friendly staff. You can walk across the street and use the pool for free at Artini 2. Usual price is 200,000rp but can be negotiated during low season. Better rate if you stay for more than 2 nights. Breakfast included.
Artini has 2 other properties that go up in price by number. pic

Kuta - Aneka Beach Kuta, nice enough but I thought for the price, the bed sheets and mosquito net used for decoration could have been a lot cleaner. Booked on internet for just 2 nights. $46US per night. Nice pool, across the street from the beach. 1 2
